See the Virtual Nurse Companion in action!

Is this just a talking chatbot?

No. Most voice assistants and chatbots consist of a number of “skills” — the high-level tasks it is able to perform — like adding an item to your shopping list or ordering a pizza. Typically, these skills have a narrow focus and do not share information with each other. So, if you forgot you had already ordered a pizza and inadvertently told your assistant to order another one, it would just do it.

Virtual Nurse, on the other hand, is basically one huge skill, which allows it to remember what you’ve already told it to do. The Virtual Nurse Companion will query your intentions if it thinks there might be a conflict or a connection with things it previously did for you. (But don’t worry — it never gets tired of answering your questions!)

In recognition of this important difference over chatbots, the high-level tasks that the Virtual Nurse Companion can perform are called “talents”. Each of these videos demonstrates one or more of these talents.

Good Morning

The “Good Morning” talent is what the Virtual Nurse Companion greets you with each morning. It asks about your sleep quality so that it can keep notes for your doctor.

Take Blood Pressure

The “Take Blood pressure” talent is used according to your care plan. If your doctor wants to track your blood pressure then your Companion will prompt you to measure it every day.

Fall Detection

The “Fall Detection” talent runs whenever you say you’ve had a fall or one of your devices thinks you’ve had a fall. Your Companion will try to confirm that it is not a false alarm before it takes action. If you don’t answer, it won’t take any chances — it will just call for help.

What Are You?

In the “What Are You?” talent, the Companion describes itself and its capabilities. You can also ask it to list its talents at any time. Also, whenever it gets taught a new talent, it will let you know as part of the “Good Morning” talent.
